The Genesis: Breakthrough Belongs to the Wholehearted
A number of years ago, I really felt God speaking to me about wholeheartedness. It was one of those things that I just couldn’t shake. No matter what scripture I read or devotional I went through, that was the message that was coming through. Every day in different ways, I felt a still small voice prompting me…”Are you living wholehearted?”
This was the genesis to The Wholehearted Chronicles.
During this same season, I had been praying through some very key areas of my life, and each time I came to the Lord in prayer I heard the same thing: Breakthrough belongs to the wholehearted.
I was confused, because I felt that I was “wholehearted.” I had been a Christian nearly all of my life, I served in my local church, shared my faith, lived obediently, did my devotions…the whole nine yards.
I knew wholeheartedness was the key I was searching for, but I had no idea what that really meant. After a few days of confusedly repeating my same prayers, I finally wised up and changed my prayer saying instead, “Ok God, clearly you’re telling me this because it is something You want to teach me. Show me what You mean. Show me how to be wholehearted. I feel like everything is Yours, but You see what I cannot…Please show me what it means to be wholehearted.” In the stillness of that moment, these words stirred in my heart…
“It’s not just about being wholehearted, it’s more about living wholehearted…”
It was like the breaking of dawn.
Suddenly, I began to see.
I began to understand.
Wholeheartedness is about living.
Living wholehearted is an attitude, an approach to life, a posture that positions everything as a love offering to God. Breakthrough, and everything else, comes as a result of this wholeheartedness…
Turning the page…
“But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him into the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it” (Num 14:24 NIV).
Like Caleb, we have an opportunity to differentiate ourselves from the world around us by having a “different spirit” or a “different attitude” – one of wholeheartedness, a commitment to live wholehearted in every thing we say, think or do.
In this genesis season, God began to show me what true wholeheartedness could look like in my life and what it could bring. As I have studied and learned this truth, my whole world and worldview has changed. Not only did I receive the breakthrough I was seeking, but I also gained a perspective that would revolutionize my life and my ministry. Isn’t that just God’s generous way!
We can create an opportunity to open the door, turn the page and find our breakthrough when we commit to living and being wholehearted!
What will living wholehearted look like for you?
