It’s so easy to find our identity and our sense of being in our surroundings…
Our positions or titles…
It’s only natural, though.
I think we innately have an understanding of Home.
Home is a place where we feel welcomed.
Home is a place where we feel included.
Home is a place where we feel safe.
Home is a place where we can be our truest self.
All of these things (friends, family, houses, jobs, titles, etc.) help us feel connected.
And that’s a good thing!
Yet, as Christians our identity and our sense of being should first and foremost be found in God through Jesus Christ.
Our True Home should be found in God’s presence.
In God’s presence we are truly welcomed, included, safe, and free to be our truest self.
There is nothing like being in God’s presence.
The psalmist captures this beautifully in Psalm 84.
How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of Heaven’s Armies. I long, yes, I faint with longing to enter the courts of the Lord. With my whole being, body and soul, I will shout joyfully to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow builds her nest and raises her young at a place near your altar, O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, my King and my God! What joy for those who can live in your house, always singing your praises. (v.1-4)
While all of my song In Your House is written around this idea, it is the bridge that has been my declaration over this last year.
A year ago, I moved away from a place that felt more like Home than any other place I’ve ever been.
I was constantly surrounded by dear friends. People who knew me and whom I knew. People I consider family.
I was seeing my heart dreams lived out day by day.
I was being challenged and stretched, growing in my giftings and ministry daily.
Plus, I was living in Paris, arguably the most beautiful city in the world!
And then…All of that was an ocean away.
While it’s true that this year has been one of the most challenging years I’ve ever walked through.
It has also been incredibly beautiful, because…
At every step I have learned to sing (and live) these words:
“My home is found in Your Presence. My dreams are realized in You!”
In every difficulty, I’ve had the choice to run to God…
In every disappointment, I’ve had the opportunity stand on God’s promises…
In moments of loneliness, I’ve had the chance to seek comfort in the arms of my Saviour…
Throughout this year, I have consciously decided to run to God, stand on His promises and rest in Him.
So, now, more than ever, my heart declares, “My home is found in Your Presence. My dreams are realized in You. I will rely on You!”
And that, to me, is beautiful!
These words affirm in our spirits that we already have all we need, in Him.
These words announce that God is the Author of our days.
These words proclaim that He knows the beginning from the end; therefore, we can just trust Him and rest in His presence.
My prayer for you would be that the words of this song would resonate in your spirit.
My hope is that on days when it’s hard and you want to run away these words would well up in your spirit…
Sending you running into His Presence…
